2024
84 × 63.5 cm
Acrylic and oil pigment stick on masonite
Framed in white, depth 5.5 cm
About this work
This painting explores the psychology of memory, focusing on how fragmented recollections form narratives. Memories, often replayed unconsciously, shape our sense of self and reality, blurring the line between truth and interpretation.
After time in the New Zealand bush, I revisited memories of my rural upbringing and connection to place and nature. In this painting, I reflect on nostalgic fragments from our early lives with two panels rearranged and abstracted to depict a ‘memory’ – a composite of interconnected elements.
This work is from the Untitled (Pieces of Us) series, exhibited at Brunswick Street Gallery in 2024.
